Well I remember being young and lying out in the grass,
And every hour burned a deeper rose across my chest.
Now I’m just an anchor tied to a riverboat,
And I can slow it all I want but the river goes where it goes.
And when you were young, you dreamt about the day you’d be wed.
Oh, and how you’d tell your friends and family about how you had met.
But the cloud flew right out of your porch summer window,
And now I miss you more, the more about that we grow.
I put my feet on the ground and carry myself home.

The battle still finds us
Beneath an element of Christ,
The curving lens of science.
I step into the pattern of some new pair of lungs.
Well my hands they start to shake when I’m near anyone.

An ankle-length of chain takes all balance away.
I can’t leave here in this state.
And eyes that once saw you clear,
Fill up now without you here.
Can I keep composure as I fall back through the atmosphere?
