War Of Words Isolated
as we look beyond
our own front doors to the borders that lie out of sight
what’ll keep us protected
from the circling wolves the hungry and the lord of the flies
they’ll invade our land and take what is ours
if we don’t hold these lines we won’t be safe anymore
can’t you see they’ve imprisoned us all
we’ve gotta lock ‘em out if we can’t lock ‘em away
so we build the walls
higher and higher ‘til we can’t see to the other side
they’ll keep us protected
from the hungry little animals threatening our way of life
and no one can penetrate our secure little fortress
cold steel and concrete will keep them out
but these walls can’t be taken from either side
it’s a prison we built it’s a prison for us
it’s hard to see if you close your eyes
hard to get out if your locked inside
is this our only safe reality?
feel secure with a lonely life
it’s hard to breathe if you’re so confined
is isolated the best that we can be
now we stare across
our neighbor’s lawn what secrets lie behind their locked doors
they stare back through their window
in suspicion of us and all the little rumors they’ve heard
who knows how they plan to take away our freedom
with violence, with theft, or lies?
must we stay blind in the age of surveillance
for safety’s sake it’s our right to know
as we draw these lines it’s a fear we primed
it’s a fear of losing it all but your mind
barricade your plate and protect your meals
reinforce your own self imprisoning life
so we watch the skies
we watch the land and the sea no nobody can stay out of sight
