My Chemical Romance have shared “Someone Out There Loves You (Live from Hoboken)” ahead of The Black Parade’s expanded anniversary release on October 23. The song is familiar to fans under the name “Stay”. On the new tracklist, it closes the collection under its official title.

The official CD presentation for The Black Parade’s 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.

The performance was recorded in 2007. The album being celebrated came out in 2006, a year earlier, as the band’s third record and the follow-up to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. That gives the release two dates to keep in mind: the album’s anniversary and the later concert preserved among its bonuses.

The official deluxe CD listing runs to 20 tracks. Here is how they are divided:

Section Contents Tracks
Original album The End through Blood (A Brief Intermission) 14
Studio B-sides Heaven Help Us; Kill All Your Friends; My Way Home Is Through You 3
Live performances Dead!; The Sharpest Lives; Someone Out There Loves You 3

There are six bonus recordings, but counting titles produces a different picture. “Dead!” and “The Sharpest Lives” are already in the main album; here they return as performances from the 2007 tour. The three B-sides sit outside that original sequence, and the Hoboken rarity adds another song. Owners of the old album can check those groups against what they already have, instead of assuming that every additional track is a new composition.

There is new work on the visual side as well. The band asked James Jean to return to the world of The Black Parade and make three new pieces of art. In their announcement, they describe the illustrations as revisiting characters associated with the record. Bringing back that collaborator gives the anniversary a connection to its earlier presentation, while allowing the artwork to move forward.

The CD’s packaging includes an O-card and wallet, a 16-page lyric folder and a new art insert. For someone who wants the words alongside the music, the lyric folder is a tangible part of this particular edition. The tracklist and the printed contents can be considered separately when comparing it with copies already on the shelf.

The store lists October 23 as the CD’s shipping date. That describes the planned dispatch; it leaves the journey to the buyer’s address still to happen. A preorder should not be read as a promise that a parcel will arrive on release morning.

Our Black Friday record release guide also looks at the difference between a pressing and its musical contents. This collection rewards the same close look at which recordings, versions and printed extras are actually being offered.
