Songdog I Bought A Rose From The Guy At The Traffic Lights
I bought a rose from the guy at the traffic-lights, but
only for the thorn. I pressed it as hard as
I could into my palm as I rode across town to your place.
A church bell rings like it’s just going
through the motions, kind of like me and my life. It’s
like I’ve always lived in mourning,
Though for what I couldn’t say….
When you spoke your words tumbled through the air like
tossed dice and lay there on the felt,
You said ‘The world is just the world, let’s go buy
pancakes from the princess
with the mole on her cheek’.
So I sulk over a lukewarm lunch served up by some
Valkyrie,
And you all bracelets and suntanned arms and the street
outside dissolving in sunlight….
When I used to wonder about how our lives would pan out
it was always the two of us together,
But I’ve known a long, long time you’re seeing this
married guy, and the thing is
it somehow just don’t matter. And when we f..ck it’s like
we’re just hustling to come,
We should’ve broke up maybe years ago. And tonight you
had a nosebleed on your white crêpe top
I said I’d miss you but you didn’t answer …..
