She is far from the land where her young hero sleeps
While around her sweet lovers are sighing
But coldly she turns from their wooings and weeps
For her heart with his cold grave is lying
She sings the wild songs of her own native home
Every note which he so loved awaking
Ah but little they think who delight in her tones
How the heart of this young girl is breaking
Though he lived for his love it's for his country he died
They were all that to life had entwined him
The tears of his country may never be dried
