Noel Gallagher is on the bill for Goldie’s Dare to Dream at the EFG London Jazz Festival. The shows take place at the Royal Festival Hall on Saturday, November 14. Goldie has a live band, the Elysian Collective and a choir for the project. The guest list also includes anaiis, Yussef Dayes, Natalie Williams and Cleveland Watkiss.

If you want to know where Gallagher fits into all of this, try “Temper Temper”. His guitar is on that track from Saturnz Return, Goldie’s 1998 album. You’ll find it on a record that opens with the hour-long “Mother” and has guest appearances by David Bowie and KRS-One. Look at those names together and it’s hard to see Gallagher’s booking as a departure for Goldie. Mixing up the guest list was part of the way he made records in the first place.
There’s another detail that’s easy to miss if you come to the announcement through Oasis. The dates belong to Goldie, and the festival announced Gallagher as a guest in the same listing as the other performers. The billed event is an orchestral Goldie show. The old guitar credit gives the guest appearance a connection to the music the show is built around.
Back at the Royal Festival Hall
Goldie has brought an orchestra to this hall before. At James Lavelle’s Meltdown in 2014, he and the Heritage Orchestra performed an orchestral version of Timeless. They came back in 2015. Those dates offer a better guide to the scale of the November production than the Gallagher credit does. Timeless also gives you an album to start with if the older shows passed you by.
In 2014 the programme had one album at its centre. The venue describes Dare to Dream in terms of Goldie’s classics, a broader bill, and the festival calls it a project put together for this year’s event. No track list has been announced. “Temper Temper” is a good place to hear what Goldie and Gallagher made together, though the record credit tells us nothing about what they’ll play in November.
There are two ticket listings for November 14, at 5pm and 8:30pm. Check that you have the right performance when you book. The festival names Gallagher on the overall event page and doesn’t give him a separate slot.
If you’re planning your evening around the guest, keep an eye on the listing for the performance you choose. You can pick a start time now; the running order is still open.
