This is the downstairs room where it all began
With a green microphone and no future plan
I'd stay inside and play 'til my hands went numb
Strumming my J-45 until the rising sun
There was word on the streets that I would make it far
My last intention was to be a star
I always found them stupid in the magazines
Sharing their broken lives like they were broken jeans
I was only young with an unknown road ahead of me

Before long I was packing my stuff and hitting the road
My old yellow Renault could barely handle the load
My cosy quiet town life, my future ex wife
Were soon to be replaced by fun fast exciting times
I developed a taste for heavy chemicals and dope
That was the first real footfall on a very slippery slope
The house of cards I built slowly tumbled down
As I gradually became less easier to be around
