Junior Johnson was a moonshiner,
He ran that shine all over to North Carolina,
In his super charged, 1947 Chevrolet,
Raisin' hell and getting paid.
Well Junior's new wife was a beautiful sight,
She'd get upset when he'd stay out all night,
These were hard times, and they led men to hard ways,
She wasn't happy when he drank all day.

Freddy was an alcoholic tax agent,
He'd be burned by Junior time and again,
It was the sad truth,
All those times he was in hot pursuit,
Not once did he catch that supped-up coupe.
Well Junior took his skills to the race-track,
He found another way to get a pay check,
The National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing,
Yeah he became a man worth chasin'.

Yeah Freddy was happy with his revenge.
Well Junior was released in '58,
He quickly proved he was born to race,
He had 50 vics when he retired in '66,
That champagne always did the trick.
