I call on you, oh God,
For you will answer me
Give ear to me and hear my prayer
Keep me as the apple of your eye
Hide me in the shadow of your wings
From the wicked who assail me
From my mortal enemies who surround me
They close up their callous hearts
And their mouth speaks with arrogance
They are like a lion hungry for prey
Like a great lion crouching in cover
Their throats are open graves
Their tongues practise deceit
The poison of vipers is on their lips
Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness
Give me a sign of your goodness
That my enemies may see it and be put to shame
Let them be caught in their pride
For the curses and lies they utter
The way of peace they do not know
There is no fear of God before their eyes
O Lord, by your hand save me from such men
Of this world whose reward is in this life
