if they had met an hour later fate might have left them misaligned
but something put them on the same path and their lives collided
and so their paths became entwined
he was moving on to somewhere and she was waiting for a ride
so he asked her if she’d pack her bags and take a drive
and she told him that she just might

they carried on and then they married and soon she carried their first child
and all his naïve dreams he gathered up and buried
and he ignored his spirit longing to be wild
and though he gave up many things he cherished she was worth the sacrifice
she was his day his night and his will for living
she was his hope, his fight, and his reason for giving
she was the perfect picture in her dress and her wedding ring
she was his everything, she was his everything
but something went so wrong along the way and both of them were left unsatisfied
and what she needed most to hear him say
were the words he could not conjure up inside
and what she felt for him just slipped away, and what they promised slowly died
