A Home If Nuts Lyrics

Humanifesto A Home If Nuts

Program funding was cut and now he's living in the gutter
No family to take him in, no shelter from the changing weather
He made a sign, improper spelling, now he's ambling in the street
Mental illness takes it's strongest toll on those who have the least

Society just looks the other way he cannot help how he was made
Tax dollars spent on more important things
Imported sand under the swings
Another hospital has been shut down
The ears of good conscience don't hear a sound
They'd rather simply look the other way

Kids without support are finding their way into trouble
Ending up in prison before even growing stuble
No case workers in the system with the necessary training
A schizophrenic diagnosis would have been enough to save him

But now he's in a prison doing smack
Abuses much worse behind the night guard's back
Deinstitutionalization plans have failed
The problem's getting worse on an exponential scale
Thousands of lives lost on spending cuts
Jails and streets: a home if nuts
We'd rather simply look the other way
