The Myths And Legends Of King Merton Womble And His Journey To The Centre Of The Earth Lyrics

Wombles The Myths And Legends Of King Merton Womble And His Journey To The Centre Of The Earth

(intro with choir and instruments)

Before the days of radio
Of telephones, and trains
I wonder if ever knights in armour
Rode the Wimbledon plains

I wonder if ever a Womble king
Looked at his tidy bag
And extricated from a stone
The sword Excalliwag

Coat of arms, the king rode
Astride his tall black steed
The Womble King of England
Had ever this plead, a dream

"We all must make a journey
To prove our knightly worth.
We're off to have a picnic
At the centre of the earth!"

So the Womble knights of England
Came riding through the plain
In the trees, the birds were singing
As they made their bold crusade

They were led by brave King Merton
Of noble Womble birth
When they rode from Wimbledon Common
To the centre of the earth!

They came to the land of honey
Where the ancient river runs
A thousand armored trash collectors
Whistling in the sun

With stagnates flying to the wind
They started their descent
Deep into the mountainside
Sweeping as they went

So the Womble knights of England
Rode deep into the ground
Keen to prove their bravery
And loyalty to the crown

They were led by brave King Merton
Of noble Womble birth
When they rode from Wimbledon Common
To the centre of the earth!

(interlude)

And even they journeyed on
With grim determination
It was six o'clock next morning
When they reached their destination

The King addressed his knights at armed,
"It looks as though we're here!
So let's eat the sandwiches
And drink the ginger beer!"

So the Womble knights of England
Came riding through the plain
In the trees, the birds were singing
As they made their bold crusade

They were led by brave King Merton
Of noble Womble birth
When they rode from Wimbledon Common
To the centre of the earth!

(coda)
