Wilbert Harrison Letter Edged In Black
[Verse 1]
I was standin'
By my window
No longer
Than yesterday
And I saw
The postman comin'
Up the pathway
Yes, up the pathway
[Verse 2]
He rang the bell
I opened the door
Then he reached
Into his bag
Then he gave
Gave me a letter
Edged in black
[Verse 3]
It was tanned
Trimmed and tanned
I took the letter
The letter it read
It said, "Come home
Come home, my son
Your mother is gone
Gone to Hеaven"
[Verse 4]
Yes, friends, I bowеd
My head in sadness
When I opened
The letter and read
Yes, I bowed
My head in sadness
Since I heard
Poor mother's gone to Heaven
[Verse 5]
Since that postman
Brought me that letter
The light of my life
Now has passed
I'm comin' home
Comin' on home
But mother is gone
Poor mother is gone
