Supersystem Revolution Summer
On August 1st of 1985,
I was on a plane descending from the sky.
Looked out the window, saw a city come alive,
As a million lights shone bright in the night.
Right before the wheels touched down,
As I hovered only inches from the ground.
And I knew, yes, all I knew was upside down,
Like a mask you know is gone,
At the moment that it is lost,
It is a story that you've heard from me before,
When the ground behind your feet 'just not there anymore,
And the thoughts that cross your mind you've never thought before,
And the things you thought were true just aren't true anymore.
Some days later, I was walking down the street,
Sweating bullets in the early August heat.
From a roottop, I heard drums pounding a beat,
As a crowd looked up and watched from the concrete.
There were four guys on the roof playing the show,
It was music that I never heard before.
With my mom and dad, I walked into a store,
When we walked out, they weren't playing anymore.
It's a moment that I knew,
Would make sense to me someday,
And it makes sense to me now,
Even thought I'm not sure how.
It is a story that you've heard from me before,
When the ground behind your feet 'just not there anymore,
And the thoughts that cross your mind you've never thought before,
And the things you thought were true just aren't true anymore.
And my eyes didn't work in quite the same exact way,
And I trace the change back to that specific day,
When I knew inside, my head, my life was going to change,
And I can't even explain it this very day.
