Only The Rain
Outside is a storm, inside is nothing
Just me and my head on a pillow with no stuffing
I'm trying to sleep, trying to rest
Trying to forget about this hole in my chest
But the thunder groans and the rain it hollers
And the hole gets bigger and I get smaller
And the hole gets bigger and starts to grow teeth
And I start to give up on the idea of sleep
And so I ask again, were you crying or was it just the
rain
The rain that rains in my bucket
The rain that rains in my heart
The rain that rained and kept on raining
The rain that rained from the start
Outside it's raging, inside it is too
It beats on the door but I won't let it through
My hands are full, my hands are tied
My body it shakes when I think how hard I tried
But the rain it crushes and mangles the tin
And the rain's still trying to find a way in
And up from the hole in my chest comes a head
And I can't begin to repeat what it said
And so I ask again, were you crying or was it just the
rain
The rain that rains in my bucket
The rain that rains in my heart
The rain that rained and kept on raining
The rain that rained from the start
The rain that pours down like lemonade
That starts off sweet and ends up flat
The rain that rains on my parade
The rain that keeps coming back
The rain comes down, it doesn't stop
The bucket is nearly filled to the top
The drips drop in in single file
And I even start to forget for a while
And the head falls back and the teeth start to grin
As the hole closes up and stretches my skin
I go to the window
I look out the pane
I don't see your tears
Only the rain
