Ten hour drive through the blazing sun
Hotter than Hades before we've begun
My sisters and I all singing in rounds
Mum pointing out shapes in the clouds
We finally arrive and we all race
Into our Grandmother's loving embrace
Soft glow from her verandah light
Guiding us home through the long dark night
Barely awake but we're full of cheer
Been a long wait but we're finally here
She makes it feel like Christmas any time of year!
Tucked in tight and when we awake
House smells of all the goodness she baked
Stockings piled high full of home made toys
House full of laughter, carols and noise
We eat like kings and after lunch
Dad falls asleep on the couch with his punch
My cousin and I, together we sneak
Down to catch tadpoles and play by the creek
Wearing our fair wings lovingly made
Eating the treats from the tin that we raid
They make it feel like Christmas any time of year.
Years fly by us girls are all grown
My sisters got married, kids of their own
I'm still over here singing my song
Hard to believe that our Grandmothers gone

We don't talk as much as I'd like
