They tore down our village and told us to go.
And where we'd go next, we sure didn't know.
They took all our things and said they'd be no more.
But the look on my little girl's face was for sure.
She said, "I'm building a road.
I'm building a road up to the hill where there's hope
They'll do what they do and they'll say what they will,
but I'm building a road up to the hill."
Well, the sky started falling, the storm so grand.
She said, "Don't stop to rest now, just take my hand."
She said, "The more you believe, the quicker the reward.
It's better your feet than your heart to be sore."
She said, "I'm building a road.

We came to find out that the hill was just a place.
She took with her when she left us with grace.
The journey proved harder than a child could bear.
But the road that she laid was for us to share.
And we followed the road.
We follow the road up to the hill where there's hope.
