Old Jerusalem Twice The Humbling Sun
Blessed be the place she danced in
And cursed where they kissed.
And with it, the complacency of the elements,
You know, this
Is the stuff that almost certainly will make a grown man weep
And it costs in time and tears one’s health and righteous soul to keep
Intact in the good path of the old days ‘til the day we all must leave
And I don’t know if ever there was love within our hearts
Or if, on the contrary, we should have ever been apart
But it’s got to take a man to make it through these days like this
And me, no, I’m too childish, you know, I’m still that kid you miss.
On the inside I reside in a place that I know both of us could call home
What? Here is just a shadow of wherever we have been
The summer always brings on something good to those with good skin
And colors up the future of the ones who, like you, see life as a cycle
To me most days are black and white, I can’t help it anyway
I like the rising of the sun and the ending of the day
And though to most people my life may seem too gloomy, it ain’t so
I have my share of light and motion, people move in, people go
There’s a strong calling to keep it on the sunny side of life and I live by it
I just know I can’t easily take this fashion of events
There’s serious stuff at stake here and we’re playing truth or consequence
Or something in that vein, but life is more than games or don’t you think so?
