National Bank The Balladeer
In the crowd I saw the worlds last balladeer
Holding on to a young lovers’ gaze
Looking past the face of his chosen one
At the entrance of a new maze
The balladeer had seen through those very eyes
Walked into that trap
How he’d come out on the other side
Was his bittersweet balladeering tap
The lovers’ stomach churns like a turnstile
Leading people back into the game
The batter let a sweat bead block his vision
Then split the bat and drove the ball infield
And running through every known emotion
A lover went excused
Then whispered in an ear engulfed in perfume
Poetry he’d long transfused
Please have me excused
But no scenery in this world strange girl
Can move me like you do
By now the chosen one was restless
Shuffling her feet on burning ground
Looking centerfield she saw the balladeer
Watch two kids spellbound
With her scarf around his throat she saw her lover
Walk a stranger out the door
And all the while the balladeer had sensed it
He’d used this line many times before
Please have me excused
But no scenery in this world strange girl
Can move me like you do
