Matthew West Younger Me
[Verse 1]
You'll be 13, listening to Billy Graham
And you'll hear the choir singing “Just as I Am”
It's gonna feel like God's meeting you right there
It's very important that you say that prayer
[Verse 2]
You'll be 16, waking up fighting mad
'Cause it's too much pressure when the preacher's your dad
And you'll wanna turn your back on everything you know
But it's very important that you turn back home
[Chorus 1]
The world will bend you
But it won't break you
God's got a plan
So take His hand and let Him take you
On a wild ride
So just hold on tight
It won't be easy, but believe me
It's the best life
Just sitting here talking to a younger me
And you'd be smiling if you could see what I see
[Verse 3]
You'll be 21, singing songs in Tennessee
Getting nothing but “no's” from the powers that be
They're gonna tell you, "you're just not good enough"
It's very important that you don't give up
[Verse 4]
And you'll be 25 when you meet Emily
And you'll be right when you think she's out of your league
She'll help you grow some more branches on your family tree
So it's very important that you buy that ring
[Chorus 2]
And the world will bend you
But it won't break you
God's got a plan, take His hand and let Him take you
On a wild ride
So just hold on tight
It won't be easy, but believe me
It's the best life
Just sitting here talking to a younger me
And you'd be smiling if you could see what I see
[Outro]
Well, I ain't gonna lie, your heart's gonna hurt
But all the pain will be worth it, for what it's worth
So keep running your race now, younger me
'Cause you'd be smiling if you could see what I see
