Mark Lenover Beautiful And Vile
When I was young I saw peculiar faces in the fire
And burned my little hands
The faces licked and danced
Beautiful and vile
They formed a dreadful choir
And I grew up afraid
Feeble and ashamed
A toothless trembling smile
Modestly profaned
By unconvincing sophistries
And long hours spent alone
Ordinary monsters sing
The only songs they know
Beautiful and vile
Nightmares in disguise
Unnervingly commonplace
Calmly horrified
Stay with me awhile
Until the hearse arrivŠµs
