Mark Lenover An Ugly Little Song
Freedom's a garrote
Or a gallows tree
The liberty to lose all self-control
Stunts the mind and rots the soul
The mirror is an inkblot
And an acid test
And even when you turn from it
Its image never rests
Its heavy gaze will take its toll
And memories are the cords
That keep us bound to what we've done
They cannot be untangled
And they cannot be outrun
They won't grow faint
They're with you
Every step you take
They follow
Shadows and heartache
Can swallow you whole
The mirror is a sadist
And a one-man band
It sings me a reminder
And it's more than I can stand
Of scuttled dreams and growing old
It's such an ugly song
An ugly little song
It's such an ugly song
An ugly little song
