Marine Research I Confess
I confess that we're in a mess
Used to effervesce, now things seem so grey
Afraid that I have to say
Things were special when we thought it would end
Being bored, something we abhored
And we could afford to show off our scene
We've forgotten what it means
Any more cheap thrills will just make us ill
So we sit in some flat
Fight about this and that
A tedious tragedy
Even walks in the park
We don't do after dark
A waste of teenage dreams
If we started over again
Back to games in the hay, playing on ice skates, fast bends
Could we make ourselves care again
Or are we stuck to giving in, living on
Living, the end
In a way maybe it's okay
If we treat today like a memory
Carry on like it's all a dream
Never use our brains or we'll suss the game
Clouded eyes, what a compromise
Lies for living liars and castaways
And nine million wasted days
If we fool ourselves then there's noone else
So we sit in some flat
Laugh about this and that
In one way it makes sense
And our walks in the park
Grow so sorry and dark
A terrible pretence
