She came into my life
with a heaven in her eyes.
Like an angel in disguise,
she was all I ever dreamed.
Was I so foolish to believe that she would wait for me?
Put her life aside for me?
I was just too young to see.
We shared the memories,
we lived our own fantasies.
The world was right when she made love to me.
Yet all the while inside my heart I knew,
'though I love her
there are things in life that just can’t be.
One day she would set me free
when I knew she needed me.
Time and time I think about the love we shared.
And I wonder if she knew how much I really cared.
For just a moment in my life,
I had it all it seemed.
But as far as I can see,
she will always be a part of me.
And somewhere down the road
our paths will cross again,
and maybe I can be a better friend.
I know that things may never be the same,
but I’ll take the blame
if just to see her smile again,
to laugh the way we did back then.
