I gave her a pearl on a chain
For a gift
Said "It's called a love drop
And my heart is in it."
"Please wear it every day
And at night-time, too"
"To prove your love
Is always true"
She wore the little love drop
Both day and night
Showing her love
Very plainly in sight
Never taking it off
Even to sleep
Knowing my love
The love drop would keep
Then one day, the chain broke
And I felt an uncertain fear
Then within a week
I started to weep
For she'd found somebody new
Her pearl on it's chain
Is no longer seen
She put it away
With the rest of our dream
The love drop is not
