I spent the weekends in the summer
Thinking of the nights we had in spring.

I was always thinking of the right words to say
But I messed up all the lines.

And when I couldn't sleep
I'd count the stars to figure out just where you are.

I watch you shoot across the sky
And fade away as quickly as you left my life.

To leave my heart on the other side.
And on my way home
I felt a fleeting love that grabbed the wheel
And took me to the house where I was born.
I put my head down on the stairs
And I listened for your footsteps
One last time
But I think they disappeared.
You're still on my mind.
Every day, all the time.
I've got my back up against your bed.
You've got your hands around my neck
And this mattress is our canvas
Where we spill our guts so we can stand this.
