I realize it's all just different phases
States of mind placing creative signs to paint the Dali facade that to be with God you must free yourself from Him
But we're all connected, destined and predetermined
Hear my sermon and fear no purpose
Or clear the bourbon so when reality attacks you act like you never heard it
Or that you don't deserve it

I've spent a lifetime selling my white lies
Hoping the fields open to buy my way off the sidelines
It takes more effort to smile than to frown
But I've been doing it for a while, my laughter doesn't have a sound
I'm fueled by acceptance, yet naive to cruel friendships
I'm seeking pensions to defeat the tension
Never occurred to me it's just a fee for my social security
A temporary cure to me to notice my impurities
It's all just different phases
It's all just different phases
Different faces associated with different places
And distant memories and moments, we'll never replace it
Even when we'd rather just erase it

I had my conscience speaking to me, and I didn't listen
Telling me not to follow my feelings without a vision
But I went through with my instinct and instead I played it
Couldn't have been persuaded
All the nights we were faded
Now the memories faded

Till the day we die, we'll all continue flipping pages
And we grow, as we go through all the different stages
For periods of time we're either happy or complacent
Till one of us gets frustrated, and starts looking for some changes
But it wasn't supposed to be that way
I always thought I'd seize the day
We should've stayed abroad and ran away
Sometimes I dream we did, and that's my favorite phase
But I guess it's all just different phases
