I believe I’m holding back an ocean
all the world depends on only this
if I allow just one more tear to spill
the earth will drown in sadness
I behold the beauty and the madness
the combination takes me by surprise
like loving you and losing you in one lifetime
the tears that make you wise
and how I feel the weight on me
I need to set it down
for in the gush of overflow
our hearts will surely drown
Must I hide from the mouths of hunger
turn away from the asking hand
shut my ears to heaven’s thunder
still my heart to the woe of man
I should be fearful of what lies beneath me
my vision and my touch disguise its depth
but when this sea of madness overcomes us
our hearts will be at rest
and how I feel the weight on me
I need to set it down
must I forever guard the gate
and see its chains stay bound
Must I hide from the mouths of hunger
turn away from the asking hand
shut my ears to heaven’s thunder
still my heart to the woe of man
must I run from the shouts of anger
play the fool to the preachers hope
wipe away all I can remember
still my heart to the hangmans rope
