Nothing’s coming out how you wanted,
The dead of winter’s outside,
You’ve been reaching out blind,
Still so much faith in what you might find.
The fire inside’s been cooling,
I guess it really happens to everyone.

It was Ziggy Stardust all the time,
Lost our minds and went to find them,
Wanted to see how deep they go,
Ain’t no better way to find out
Then to dig yourself out of a hole.
Didn’t know that you’d been bleeding,
Till you looked up and saw the blood,
The darkness is misleading,
Just trying to remember before the flood.
Didn’t know how to be lonely,
Before you first fell in love,
You didn’t know how to be in love,
Before you felt the loneliness from which it comes,
Never did anything long enough,
To find how much time it takes,
Never knew anyone long enough,
To find out what makes their heart break,
We were just creatures of habit,
Trying to shake off the past.
And that boredom we’d all be fighting,
Oh, that wasn’t boredom at all,
Turns out we’d just been hiding,
From the holy loneliness in it all.
