Becca Bowen Mama's Prayer
I packed up my dreams and my guitar
I threw my future in the trunk of my old car
I chased the world till I couldn't run
Burned through my youth like a setting sun
But I could feel Mama's prayers like a pullin' tide
Callin' me home from the cold outside
Like a porch light burning through the pain
Heard her voice saying, “come in from the rain”
I tried to hide, but she wouldn't let go
Took every wrong turn a girl could know
You can drive for miles, wonder if she still cares
But you can't outrun a Mama's prayer
Guess the weight of leavin' finally felt real
When I saw what I lost and let go of the wheel
Like a magnet pullin' me back home
Too tired to fight what I'd always known
Cause I could feel Mama's prayers like a pullin' tide
Callin' me home from the cold outside
Like a porch light burning through the pain
Heard her voice saying, “come in from the rain”
I tried to hide, but she wouldn't let go
Took every wrong turn a girl could know
You can drive for miles, wonder if she still cares
But you can't outrun a Mama's prayer
I came home with a suitcase full of scars
Didn't say much, just sat in the dark
She wrapped her arms ‘round the mess I'd made
Said nothin' I'd done could make her walk away
Cause I could feel Mama's prayers like a pullin' tide
Callin' me home from the cold outside
Like a porch light burning through the pain
Heard her voice saying, “come in from the rain”
I tried to hide, but she wouldn't let go
Took every wrong turn a girl could know
You can drive for miles, wonder if she still cares
But you can't outrun a Mama's prayer
