We've discovered that ancient Mars have regions which we call habitable, which means places where life might have begun. But even if it was never there, we believe that we have a second planet in our solar system (the first being Earth) where life might have begun. And I think that the fundamental new information about the planet is our conviction that it's a habitable planet.

All the previous spacecraft restricted that have been flown either can study to the sun or solar wind, cosmic rates or to study planets that have been restricted to the solar eclipse. But it's been known for a long time since we started the space ages that there would be a great deal of benefit in being able to make 3-dimensional basically escape out of the solar eclipse to find out what is going on in regions which are very different to study, and so it was decided that the Synasus mission do that.
