kelly hogan "plant white roses" -
Source: Captains Deadkelly hogan has been seemingly around forever, or is it just that im getting older and were aging at the same rate? who knows, and who really cares? kelly first came into my world back in 96 or 97 with her record, the whistle only dogs can hear. a record made up of originals and covers of artists such as palace brothers aka will oldham, vic chesnutt, and i also believe catherine irwin of freakwater, etc. this was another one of my late night stumbling into quaker goes deaf purchases which there have been many, if youve been following along.
well, i have been following her career for the past 16 years, which has seen her release a couple of great records, because it feel good and beneath the country underdog. to go through who she has worked with over the years is a proverbial who's who in awesomeness, neko case, will oldham, waco brothers, jon langford, was a member of the rock*a*teens, and the list goes on and on and on. why you may ask does she get a chance to work with some many folk? its the fucking pipes man, the pipes! and they've only gotten better with age, and imho not many better exist.
she's got a new record coming out this tuesday, 6.5, her first in 10 years and which is called i like to keep myself in pain. the record, which i havent heard yet, is made up of songs penned for kelly by the likes of jon langford, the handsome family, robbie fulks, robyn hitchcock, john wesley harding just to name a lot. she's also backed up by the legendary booker t., james gadson (bill withers, beck) as well as gabe roth of the dap-kings and scott ligon. its being released via anti and you can read more about the record, here.
